IELTS Speaking 2021?

Getting Ready for Part 2 and Part 3 of the Test

It is difficult to guess what type of questions or the topic you may get in your IELTS Speaking.

The first part of the test can be a piece of cake. You may answer common questions. You may give your introduction, talk about your family or friends, talk about your hobbies, likes or dislikes, your goals, etc.

But when it comes to part 2 and part 3 of the test, you will have to be very careful and answer intelligently.

Getting ready for the Part 2 and Part 3 in speaking test

During your second part of the test, the interviewer may ask you to talk about a topic. It can be about anything from education to technology, history, social issues, etc. You will get some time to prepare the notes and then speak about the topic.

Let us assume you have got the following title:

“Can you describe the historical importance of your city?”

You can create some notes on the given topic.

Example:

  • What is the name of your city? Why was it named as such?
  • What are the famous historical places in your city?
  • What is this city best known for?
  • What are the top destinations?
  • Which can be the best historical place for the foreign tourists?
  • Does this tourist destination receive a large number of tourists?

Remember, you are expected to talk about the topic for at least 2-3 minutes. That is recommended. You can talk about the city in a general way. You do not have to be a historian to explain the historical importance of your city. You can talk about the places in a simple way. You do not have to focus more on who constructed that monument, and other bits of history.

What if you do not know anything about the given title?

If you feel that you have got a topic that can be difficult for you to talk about then you can ask the interviewer to give you some other topic. You can request the interviewer to give you some other topic.

Of course, it is not recommended but still in such difficult situations you can request.

Be ready to answer the questions that follow

After you finish talking about the topic, the interviewer may ask you questions related to the same topic in Part 3 of the test so, you will have to be ready for the same too. You do not have to give answers only in YES or NO. You will have to be as explanatory as you can. If you answer with a node or with only limited number of words then you may not get a good score in your IELTS.
