IELTS New Test Features?

“Is IELTS just the same?” Well, it is not just the same. Find out more.

One of the most favored English language proficiency tests which is taken by a large number of aspirants who would like to study in an English-speaking country or want to move to a foreign country is none other than IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

The test has undergone some changes with respect to mode of exam and terms of registration fee.

The registration fee for both the test modules such as Academic and General IELTS has been revised (for applicants who are applying for the test especially in most of the Asian countries). It was in April the notice on revised registration fee was released. Just only a difference of a few dollars. Not much. There is more flexibility in selecting the dates. Candidates who are applying for the test have the option to select any date they want. Candidates can select their test center, city where they would like to take the test. There are almost 1200 locations in almost 140 countries / territories across the globe.

Test Mode

The monde of the test has also got changed. The test takers have the option to take either paper-based test or computer-based test. This change in mode of delivery of this test has been made with the sole purpose to make it more accessible for everyone and to provide more convenience for the hi-tech people. Another reason is to make it more competitive because other tests such as PTE is already computer-based.

Either you apply for the computer-based test or the paper-based test, you will be paying exactly the same amount of the revised registration fee. You will have the option to pick any mode of the test. There are no extra charges. You can pay through credit / debit card (Visa or Master). You can pay through Net banking. Through Demand Draft. Bank deposit etc.

Are there any changes in reading, writing and listening sections?

Whether you take it on computer or on paper, you will have to face the same level of difficulty in getting through it. No changes have been made to these sections.

How will be the speaking test if I opt for computer-based IELTS?

Even if you opt for computer-based IELTS, you will be taking the speaking test like how it was. You will have to attend the interview. There will be a real person, a certified, trained examiner who will be examining your speaking skills.

Which test will be easy - computer-based or paper-based IELTS?

The level of difficulty will just remain the same no matter how you are going to take it, either on paper or on computer. No change in time allotted for each and every section of this paper. No change in assessment criteria.
