IELTS Listening Useful Tips?

IELTS Listening is all about active listening. You will listen to four different audios and answer the questions that follow.

The first audio of the IELTS Listening will be conversation between two people. For instance, a tourist booking a hotel room online.

The second audio will be a monologue. There will be discussion or an explanation on some topic. For instance, a professor explaining how computers work.

The third audio will be a conversation. There can be three, four or even five speakers. The topic under discussion can be related to studies or anything.

The fourth audio will again be a monologue. Of course, a bit more complex than what will listen to in second audio.

Get familiar with questions

A variety of questions will be asked. You may have to fill out the blanks, match the following, label the diagram, complete the flowchart, a pie diagram, etc. it is always good to take some time out and practice answering all different types of questions.

Read questions before you listen to the audio

you will be given time to check the questions before listening to the audio. Make use of that time. Read the questions and be ready to find out the missing information.

Example: Who is the circus cat?

Script: Anna knew nothing about circus. Her friend who was a good athlete was a part of the circus group. So, she proposed that Anna shall take interest in performing the role of the circus cat. And Anna agreed to it.

Answer: Anna

Check out the spelling

It is possible that you listen to the correct answer but make a spelling mistake. Spelling mistakes are always taken seriously. You can’t expect the examiner to mark your answer as right if there is an error in spelling.

Pneumonia – correct

Neumonia – incorrect

it is true that you have heard that right but you have not written that correctly.

Write as you listen

You will have to write as you listen. This is the toughest part of the IELTS listening. You will have to focus on the two tasks at the same time. Listening and providing the answers to the questions.

Skip the difficult ones

If you miss out on any information, then make yourself ready for the next piece of information. Otherwise, you will not be able to answer the questions that follow. You shall not spend more of your time on questions that are difficult for you to answer.

Guesswork at the end

You can come to questions that you have left answered at the time. Here, guesswork can help you. Of course, you shall not leave any question unanswered. And how knows your guess can even be right.
