IELTS Grammar Tips Some Common Errors?

Learning grammar is important. If you want to get a good band score, you will have to have good command over English.

Generally, IELTS candidates face difficulty when it comes to writing and speaking tests. Because, these two are the tests which assess their English skills closely. You will be writing an essay or a letter. A small mistake may lead to a low score. Similarly, when you speak you will have to use correct grammar. So, it is important that you should learn grammar.

Most of the student's make silly mistakes. For instance, most of the mistakes are related to the use of the correct preposition.

Consider the following sentences:

1.      She will reach at the airport at 11 pm.

2.      She will reach the airport at 11 pm.

Which one do you think is right?

Obviously, sentence 2 is correct. We do not use the preposition “At” here.

Check out these two sentences.

1.      Her flight will depart in 1 am.

2.      Her flight will depart at 1 am.

Sentence 2 is correct. Here we have to use “At” and not “In.”

Given below are some of the correct and incorrect sentences.

Incorrect: She was just on time to catch her bus.

Correct: She was just in time to catch her bus.

Incorrect: It is necessary that you should pay your bills in time.

Correct: It is necessary that you should pay your bills on time.

Incorrect: I think you are afraid by exams.

Correct: I think you are afraid of exams.

Incorrect: She has been teaching from 5 years.

Correct: She has been teaching for 5 years.

Incorrect: She might go to the office today. It may depend of her mood.

Correct: She might go to the office today. It may depend on her mood.

Incorrect: He is married with her school friend.

Correct: He is married to his school friend.

Incorrect: Have you ever been in Germany?

Correct:  Have you ever been to Germany?

Incorrect: I read about it on the newspaper.

Correct: I read about it in the newspaper.

Incorrect: Martha has been absent from Monday.

Correct: Martha has been absent since Monday.

 

Incorrect: Money is not a key of happiness..

Correct: Money is not a key to happiness.

Incorrect: You do not have to invest money on this type of business.

Correct: You do not have to invest money in this type of business.

Incorrect: You are requested to wait inside the green  line.

Correct: You are requested to wait behind the green line.

Incorrect:She is really good in English.

Correct: She is really good at English.

Incorrect: She is waiting his comeback.

Correct: She is waiting for his comeback.

Incorrect: She bought a bag of rice with $200.

Correct: She bought a bag of rice for $200.

Incorrect: She died from blood cancer.

Correct: She died of blood cancer.

Incorrect: They wanted to complain for the bad food at the hospital.

Correct: They wanted to complain about  the bad food at the hospital.
